Helpline on Personal Health & Hygiene and
Counselling Service
The school offers a full fledged Counselling Service
for the students with regular programmes. The chief
cornerstone of the programme is Emotionally Intelligent
Parenting.
“EMOTIONALLY INTELLIGENT PARENTING”
Being parents is the most pleasurable but toughest
experience of life. Parenting nowadays has become very
difficult & complicated due to the changes in the attitude
& behaviour of today’s children. The communication gap
between parents & children seem to get broadened & add up
to the already existing problems of everyday life. The
resultant feature is ‘problem children’ & ‘confused
parents’.
In order to bridge the gap between children & their
parents our school regularly conducts a programme named
‘Emotionally Intelligent Parenting’. The programme is a
comprehensive guide for growing children & their parents.
The three cornerstones of the programme consists of a
child’s basic emotional needs, his various emotional
problems & the emotional management through dynamic
parenting skills. The structure of the programme revolves
around four basic emotional needs such as emotional
security, recognition & appreciation, independence &
discipline. The programme also focuses on the causes &
effects of various emotional difficulties faced by the
child from time to time. Conflicts between parents &
children have become inevitable as children struggle
through ‘terrible two’s through adolescence to develop
their own identities. ‘Emotional Management’ &
‘Relationship Management’ are the two major aspects of the
programme. The former teaches the child to control his
feelings so that they remain appropriate to a given
situation & the latter emphasizes on developing the
child’s ability to anticipate, understand & appropriately
respond to the emotions of others.
The programme takes recourse to a comprehensive power
point presentation, various activities such as debates,
preparing charts, and collage etc. followed by a written
feedback from parents regarding the content of the
programme.
Topics of EIP covered:
# Home-School Bonding
# Principles of development & parenting
# Sibling rivalry
# Creating a caring home
# On working mothers
# Adolescence crisis
# Common behavioural problems of children
# Exam phobia
We hope to develop many more programmes on various
uncovered aspects of parenting in our upcoming sessions.
The purpose of this interactive workshop is to discuss
problems, share experiences bring out solutions, & act as
an information channel to other parents in need.
The students are advised to contact the counselors as and
when needed.
Report on EIP
Developing Learning Foundations
The foundation given to the child’s learning during his
initiation into academics is no less important than that
built in for an edifice. But it is the ‘hand that rocks
the cradle’ which needs to be strong – morally, physically
and emotionally in order to create a beautiful life which
in turn can “rule the world”. In the nuclear family
structure of the present day society mothers perhaps find
it stressful to grapple with everyday situations of
guiding the child through his basic emotional needs. In
doing so there is at times confusion between need and
demand. As a result the child becomes stubborn,
aggressive, and difficult to handle. The child takes a
long time to settle down in his school and to adjust with
others. In order to guide the mother in giving the child
the right foundation to his learning a session was
organized by VMS recently. The school psychologist, Ms.
Anamika Sen stressed on the need to allow the child to
develop his individual identity and self-esteem. She
traced the causes of various chid-related problems which
the mothers faced at home to understand the effects and
develop their own strategies like perceiving the child’s
feelings avoiding negative behaviour , manifestations,
spending quality time and avoiding programmes that exhibit
violence on TV. In their feedback forms at the end of the
programme, the mothers admitted that “a child that hurts
is a child that is hurt” and therefore needed gentle care
and quality time at home.
